Narla, the three-year-old rottweiler was admitted to The Lost Dogs' Home Veterinary Clinic with hemorrhagic gastro enteritis, a potentially fatal condition affecting the stomach and bowel. Narla's symptoms appeared suddenly and her condition deteriorated very quickly with internal bleeding, severe nausea and diarrhea.
Dr Larry Colson, The Lost Dogs' Home Veterinary Clinic Manager, was swift to administer medical treatment to rehydrate Narla, replace lost protein, relieve her pain and stop further infection.
"Narla was very weak and her prognosis was grim," said Dr Colson.
The Lost Dogs' Home Veterinary Clinic has in-house blood analyzer machines which means veterinary staff can run biochemical and haematology blood tests to obtain results immediately. Dr Colson and his team were able to quickly establish Narla's blood profile and monitor her response to treatment.
The Clinic's nursing team also played a vital role in Narla's recovery. Veterinary Nurses were consistently at Narla's side providing outstanding care, monitoring vitals and most of all, providing TLC.
"When an animal is on the brink, it is quite often the ability of the nursing team to provide attentive, quality care that sees the animal through," said Dr Colson.
"We are very lucky to have such skilled nurses who work in this industry because they truly love animals," he said.
Narla has made a complete recovery and has since returned to her grateful family.
